Avatars are one of the most powerful ways to explain content, especially when you don’t want to appear on camera. With AI tools, you can now create 3D cartoon-style avatars that look just like you — and even sync them with your voice.
In this post, I’ll show you two simple methods for creating your own 3D avatar, from a basic setup to a more advanced Pixar-style version.
🎨 Method 1 – Simple Avatar
This method is quick and requires very little editing. Perfect for beginners.
👉 Step 1 – Create a 3D cartoon-style image from your photo
Upload a photo of yourself into ChatGPT (with image generation enabled) and use the following prompt:
Prompt:Transform this photo into a 3D children’s animation style
This will generate a cartoon version of you that looks fun and animated.
👉 Step 2 – Turn your image into a video
Use an image-to-video generator. A good free tool is:
🔗 AI Free Video
Prompt:Talking to the viewer, static camera.
This will create a short animated video of your avatar speaking.
👉 Step 3 – Add your own voice with Dreamface
Upload your video and your audio file to Dreamface.
⚡ Free plan: up to 30 seconds per audio, maximum 10 times per day.
And that’s it! You now have a simple talking avatar.
🎬 Method 2 – Advanced Pixar-Style Avatar
This method creates a more realistic and detailed Pixar-style avatar.
👉 Step 1 – Create your custom prompt with ChatGPT
Upload a photo of yourself to ChatGPT and ask it to generate a Pixar-style prompt. For example:
Prompt Example:
Ultra-detailed 3D Pixar cartoon style portrait of a smiling man with brown skin, shaved head, short beard, expressive eyes, wearing a white shirt. Cinematic soft lighting, clean background, Pixar-style proportions with slightly exaggerated features, friendly and charismatic look, high quality render, vibrant colors, perfect for animation movie character.
You can also customize:
- T-shirt text (e.g., “Brazil”)
- Background (e.g., “futuristic tech environment”)
- Pose (e.g., “photographic style, looking at the viewer”)
👉 Step 2 – Generate the image with Piclumen
Go to Piclumen and use the style PicLumen Art V1.
- Insert your Pixar-style prompt
- Generate multiple variations
- If you don’t like the results, tweak the prompt in ChatGPT and try again
👉 Step 3 – Animate and Lip Sync
Now, transform your avatar image into a video and sync it with your voice. You can use the same tools as in Method 1 or explore more advanced AI animation tools for smoother results.
🧑🎨 How to Make an Avatar Similar to Mine
Here’s the exact prompt I used for my avatar. Feel free to adapt it:
Prompt:Image of a young man with a beard and black hair wearing a blue t-shirt with the text "California Digital". 3D Pixar cartoon style. In the background, a blurred technological environment.
To customize it for yourself:
- Upload your own photo
- Insert the prompt above
- Add this instruction:
Adjust the previous prompt to match my appearance. Keep the 3D Pixar style.
On my t-shirt, write: _______.
I should be centered in the image, looking at the viewer.
🚀 Final Thoughts
Whether you just want a quick, fun cartoon avatar or a fully customized Pixar-style version, these tools make it possible to create engaging video explainers without ever showing your face on camera.
